Sweden wins World Minigolf Championships – PICTURES =

(LCG9152 – Odense, 24.08.2009) The favourites Sweden took a clean sweep of gold medals at the WMF World Minigolf Championships in Odense (Denmark) in both women and mens individual and team events. Austria secured second place with two silvers (womens individual and team) and a bronze (men team) with Germany third with one silver (men team) and two bronzes (women team and men individual).

o Bronze – Karin Wiklund, SWE

o Gold – Jonas Gustafsson, SWE
o Silver – Filiph Svensson, SWE

o Silver – Austria
o Bronze – Germany

The World Minigolfsport Federation (WMF) World Minigolf Championships took place in Odense, Denmark between 19th and 22nd August 2009. 137 players from 23 countries competed in the tenth edition of the championships. It is the first time the World Championships have been contested in Denmark.

The World Minigolf Championships were played on purpose built Feltgolf and Miniaturegolf playing systems at the indoor arena at Odense Congress Center. The tournament was played over 8 rounds for teams with an additional matchplay final for the individual competition.

WMF Sports Director Gerhard Zimmermann said: „The 10th Minigolf World Championships, which took place for the first time as an indoor event have been a full success on a very high sport level. The spectators could follow thrilling matches in an exciting atmosphere during the matchplay finals of the individual competition. The overwhelming winner is the Swedish Minigolf Federation, who won all four gold medals in team and individual competition.“
